Hard to believe it was all of four years ago. A happy anniversary to you, Papa!
Here’s his little address in English:
Dear brothers and sisters, after the great Pope John Paul II, the Lord Cardinals have elected me, a simple humble worker in the vineyard of the Lord. I am consoled by the fact that the Lord knows how to work making use even of insufficient instruments, and above all, I entrust myself to your prayers. In the joy of the Risen Lord, and trusting in his unfailing help, let us go forward, the Lord will help us, Mary, his most holy mother, will be at our side. Thank you.
(This is not the best clip on YouTube, but I think it’s the most complete in that it contains the announcement, discourse and blessing all in one. The Italian commentary is really banal, as almost all news commentaries are, so English speakers aren’t missing much).
